Who is eligible to join the club?
The club is open to BCC and FAU students, staff, and faculty.
We invite you to experience
BCC Kenpo and to further develope your skills within BCC Kenpo Club's traditions: courtesy, self-control, integrity, humility, and
providing the practitioner with a safe training environment.
What monthly fees are associated with the club?
At the moment, there
are no monthly fees/dues associated with joining the club, for BCC or FAU students. However, each student is responsible for purchasing
their gi (uniform) by the 3 rd practicing week, and any fees associated with 'Belt Ceremonies'.
Open enrollment?
Yes, you may
join the club at any time during the year. No martial arts experience is needed to join.
Release form?
Each student will be requested
to sign a 'BCC Kenpo Club Release Form'.
The form reviews the students rights and responsibilities concerning club activities .
When
do you practice?
The club meets every Monday & Wednesday from 6:00pm-8:00pm . At the BCC Central Campus Pavilion (next to the Basball
field)
It is suggested that students arrive 15 minutes prior to the beginning of class to assist with the dojo setup.
Friday
night class?
During the year we will offer class on Friday nights.
The Friday night class will vary from month to month.
It is a less
formal class, where students have an opportunity to socialize and review skills.
How does one enroll?
Simply bring your Student/Staff
ID, sign the activities form, remove your shoes, jewelry, and wait for someone to invite you onto the dojo mats.
What will I
learn in class?
A typical class begins with a warm-up exercise and the stretching of the body. Next we will review the basic techniques
'Kihon waza'.
We then generally divide the class into groups. Within these groups students will begin to learn the techniques of katas,
kihon waza, and self-defense.
What should I wear to class?
The attire worn by the students of the BCC Kenpo Club is a black gi, black hakama,
and an obi, worn on the out side on the hakama. Please note: that during formal occasions the student has the option of wearing either
an white or the black gi.
Belt Ceremony?
Colored belts are awarded to recognize the progress of the student in mastering the physical
and mental aspects of BCC Kenpo Club.
Most students will start with a white-belt, signifying that they are beginners. We will have
between 2 and 3 belt ceremonies per year.
Since all students are individuals with different potential and rates of development, it
is essential that one student not be compared to another. Belt ranking should only be used as a tool to measure each student's own
individual improvement. The instructor will grade the student on many factors, including: Form (kata), Basic techniques (kihon), bunkai,
Sparring (kumite), and Dojo Etiquete
